Here's what happened:
(background, May 7) On vacation Hunter was so excited that he got to build his own remote control car. And by 'build' I mean he got to pick out everything, from the body, the color, sounds it makes, tires, rims, lights underneath, stickers and then he got to actually help build the car. So all of this costed a pretty penny, more like 1100 pretty pennies (translate that into dollars if you would like) but we figured he hadn't really asked for too much while in Florida and this was something he REALLY wanted.
Fast-forward to present day, May 18 (a mere 10 days after making his car):
I go into the bathroom and open the drawer to get a new towel out and when I pull the towel out I see a tire there. Not just any tire, but the cool tire with blue skulls on it and a fancy, shiny rim. Hmmmm... "Hunter, come here!"......(holding up the tire)"What's this?" He shrugs. So I ask where the rest of the car is and he points....with his eyes....to the bigger cupboard. I pull open the bigger cupboard, and hiding way in the back is his new green, remote control car. At this point you can see his face go pale with fear, and his voice seemed to be lost, because he could not speak.
Jason hears us talking and walks by and says, "What's going on?" As you can guess the next 20 min. were not chipper. After these 20 min. Hunter finally regained his voice enough to tell us exactly what happened:
While taking us outside to the driveway, he points down at the cement and says,
Hunter: "It happened here, I tried to jump it."
Us: "Hmmm.....how can you jump it on the flat ground?"
Hunter: "Grandma's car"
Not quite understanding
Us: "What about Grandma's car?"
Hunter: "I jumped it off of Grandma's car"
After telling Hunter a million times to be careful with his new car and with any new toy that he gets, he proceeds to put the car on the hood of a real car and then jump it off of the hood onto the cement. This didn't happen only once, oh no, Hunter proceeded to do it numerous times until the final outcome was a broken off tire, a broken headlight, broken fin, scratched all over, stickers coming off, bottom line is this car looks like it was in a Nascar crash, and really it pretty much was.
Needless to say Hunter did a lot of crying that night and was grounded for the evening, which he mostly slept through. And if he wants to get this car remotely fixed he will be doing some chores around the house to earn some money to help pay for the repairs.
I hope he learns his lesson and we won't be dealing with this in 12 years with a real car!!

Brand new, shiny car
